Description
The tummy tuck is a surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles when needed. It is often required after giving birth to multiple babies or after significant weight loss.
Anesthesia
The procedure is done under general anesthetic.
Surgery Duration
Typical duration is 2 – 3 hours. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis or admission for 1 night is needed.
Expected Recovery
Pain postoperatively is usually mild to moderate but easily controlled with pain killers. Wound drains need to be removed 3 – 5 days after the surgery. No suture removal is necessary. Expect to be back to work after 10 – 14 days. A compression garment needs to be worn for a month.
